I love how bedtime at my house becomes "true confession" hour. Take tonight for example... It started with Chase having an upset tummy. He suggested that maybe he drank too much water. I countered that maybe it was because he had 2 sodas today. The conversation continued like this:
Chase, "Aiden had 2 sodas too."
Me, "No, Aiden had chocolate milk."
Chase, "Aiden had chocolate milk at Grandma's house."
Aiden, "Ya. I spilled my chocolate milk in the family room. On the carpet. I didn't tell Grandfather."
Me, "Why didn't you tell Grandfather?!"
Chase, "He cleaned it up!"
Me, "But why didn't you tell Grandfather?"
Aiden, "Because I was afraid he would get mad at me and spank me and lock me out of the house or put me in a dog trap."
Me, (more than a little amused... remember Aiden's my dreamer with a vivid imagination) "Grandfather wouldn't do any of those things. He might give you a time-out. It's better to tell the truth. Adults get more angry when someone lies about a mistake."
Aiden, "Well, I'll tell Grandfather tomorrow."
Chase, "Well, maybe I drank too much water."
Me, "When did you drink too much water?"
Chase, "In the bathtub. I'm sorry, but I drank the bath water."
Me, "That's pretty gross. Maybe that's why your tummy hurts."
Aiden, "Mom. We always drink the bath water. When you're not looking."
Me, "Well, maybe it could make your tummy hurt so you shouldn't do it anymore."
Aiden and Chase, "We won't."
A clear conscience must do wonders for little boys since they promptly fell asleep. ;)

Your posts always make me literally LOL. First of all how cute is it they use the word "Grandfather?" Love it! What funny little boys you have. I'm going to make my Mom read this. Hillarious!
Ahh....the clear conscience is the best sleeping aid. Now only if you didn't have to know about the bath water. seriously. gross. And btw...I am pretty sure that grandfather owns a dog trap.
Thanks, Shannon! :) All the grandchildren call my dad Grandfather. It is pretty cute. Speaking of cute, I want to see your little ones!
Dee'd, I know what you mean about the water. Soooo ick! And dog traps? Just like grandfather locks people (especially grandchildren) out of the house on a regular basis. :) Cracks me UP!
