Whose line is it, Anyway?

So my little Chaseroo has a penchant for quoting movies (or songs). It makes me laugh everytime because he's only 3... and he's only been 3 for a month. He definitely has a quick wit like his Uncle Dennis and cousin Elli. A few examples:

1-Aiden was trying to hit a ball with a makeshift bat (a lincoln log). I threw the ball and he swung and missed. Chase said, "So close, and still so far." I wondered where he got that from and figured it out in the car listening to one of our favorite cds... anyone know? (No fair if I already told you, Amber & Dee Dee!) ;)

2-We were riding around in the car and Aiden fell asleep. Chase says, "Mom, we got a nodder." ha, ha Name the movie.

3-Chase had his hand up pinching his fingers and thumb together saying, "I've got a pincher. Watch out, it's going to get you." So, I made a pincher with my fingers and started to go after HIM. He started scurrying away (we were on my bed) yelling, "Swim away, swim away!"

I never know what these boys are going to come up with next, but they sure do keep me laughing! :D

Twins...

There is nothing like that twin connection. My boys stick up for each other regardless of the situation. Today I refused to play Aiden's usual car "ritual"... Everytime we get in the car, he climbs into the very back and I have to sing, "Where is Aiden, where is Aiden?" To which he replies, "Here I is.", and then climbs back to his seat. Sometimes it's cute. Other times, just time-consuming. Today was one of those days when I just wanted to get going. I told him he had to just get in his seat or we weren't going. He got so indignant and said, "You mean you is not going to say MY where is Aiden?" I said, "No." He said (with all the seriousness he could muster), "Well, my dad is going to frow you in the TRASH!" I said, "Fine. I'll throw you in... jail (the only thing I could think of?!)." Chase then got involved and said to me in the most haughty voice he could, "Mom! If you frow Aiden in jail, I will break him IN there! Then I will ask him (at which point his voice turned soft and sweet), 'Aiden, where is your mom? Her's in de trash?' " I guess I know how I rate!

Far, far away...

Whenever we get in the car lately, Chase asks, "We're not going far, right Mama?" I usually tell him, "No, we're going... " and tell him wherever that may be. He then asks, "That's not far, right?" Well, yesterday Chase decided he WANTED to go far, far away. He wanted to go back to "Souri" (otherwise known... on this blog, anyway... as Misery.). Why? Because he missed baby "Kabeeka". (Kavika for those of you thinking, what an odd name.) He begged for seriously hours. That boy just doesn't forget! You can't distract him and get him on another idea. He wants what he wants, when he wants it. He's in for a lot of disappointment. :(

Mind you, the tears were not because I told him we weren't going. The tears were because he was "missing Kabeeka so much".

Chaseroo

These are some of the many faces of my Chase... or Chaseroo as he prefers to be called. ;) (I especially like the one where he's just about to sneeze!) He's a sweatheart. I adore him (and his brother, of course). Chase has had some tough times in his short 3 years of life. He was a collicky baby. He had to have special formula with apple juice mixed in (because of constipation... he'll love this story when he's a teen, right?!). He has five scars on his forehead already; two of those required stitches. After 9 months of having tonsilitis, which caused 106 degree temps., that wouldn't go away without antibiotics, he had his tonsils and adenoids removed. Did I mention that pretty much the first year of his life I slept sitting up on the couch with him so he could breathe, otherwise he would just get so stuffed up, he couldn't sleep and thus neither could I?! Anyway...

I used to work with a lady who would get up in the middle of the night to get cheese or juice for her daughter who was hungry or thirsty. I said I would NEVER do such a thing. I would be the tough-go-back-to-sleep-and-suck-it-up-til-morning mom. Well, in spite of all that I've gone through with Chase, I've never gotten up in the middle of the night with him just to get him a drink or something to eat (and if you don't know Chase, he's ALWAYS hungry, so that's saying something!) unless he was sick and coughing or something. Then I'd get water, but that's my limit. Well, the other night he was coughing his poor head off and not getting much sleep (again, that means neither was I). At about 4 o'clock in the morning he realized he didn't have the slinky (he called it a "bouncy-thing") he had gotten that night at his Uncle Dennis and Chris' b-day party. After trying to be tough for a good 15 minutes, I finally gave in and went to look in the car. After all, he wasn't feeling well and I was starting to get desperate for sleep myself. I couldn't find it. Then he searched the car and couldn't find it. Then he remembered he'd put it in Grandfather's pocket! It's 4:15 in the morning. NO WAY I'm going over to my parent's house to wake them up just for a stupid slinky! Not THIS tough mom!! Whatever. Maybe not at 4:15, but fast forward 15 minutes and 4:30 I was waking Grandma up with a phone call to verify whether there was a slinky in Grandfather's pants pocket... there was... Chase and I got in the car and drove right over. (Sorry Grandma and Grandfather!) In my defense, he wasn't feeling well. He cried for half an hour before I gave in... Ok, no defense. I'm a sucker. I'm one of those easy-give-in-to-almost-anything moms I swore I would never be! :D I did get to finally go back to sleep from about 5:00 a.m. until Aiden got up at about 7:00 a.m. Lucky me. Chase and Karam slept in until 9:00 a.m. They must've been really tired! ;)

Yikes... Ike!

Well, Ike paid a visit to Dee Dee & Amber and their families. He wasn't a great guest, as he made a mess of their yards and took the electricity with him. Luckily they're all safe and well (just extremely hot without the electricity-powered a/c). No damage to their homes, just lots of work in their yards.

It's made me think about how much we rely on power!! I mean, really, what do you do that doesn't require power?! This blog wouldn't be happening without power. I wouldn't be writing it. You wouldn't be reading it. (Oh wait... does anybody read this?) Seriously, how would you communicate? Sure there's the good old fashioned snail mail (quick aside... Chase saw a USPS truck stopping at our house the other day and he said excitedly, "Mom, LOOK! It's the E-MAIL MAN!!" LOL). But what about the day to day stuff. How do you find out if you have school (granted, if there's no electricity, chances are, there's no school, but STILL... that's one thing you don't want to take for granted. Think of all the make-up work if you made the wrong assumption!) or church... the emergency broadcast system wouldn't even work. You don't have television or radio to send the messages to. Come to think of it, without electricity, the televisions and radio stations are probably not running either. I guess they could run off of generators, but without power in any of the homes, what's the point?! Anyway, I'm just sayin'...
