Chaseroo

These are some of the many faces of my Chase... or Chaseroo as he prefers to be called. ;) (I especially like the one where he's just about to sneeze!) He's a sweatheart. I adore him (and his brother, of course). Chase has had some tough times in his short 3 years of life. He was a collicky baby. He had to have special formula with apple juice mixed in (because of constipation... he'll love this story when he's a teen, right?!). He has five scars on his forehead already; two of those required stitches. After 9 months of having tonsilitis, which caused 106 degree temps., that wouldn't go away without antibiotics, he had his tonsils and adenoids removed. Did I mention that pretty much the first year of his life I slept sitting up on the couch with him so he could breathe, otherwise he would just get so stuffed up, he couldn't sleep and thus neither could I?! Anyway...

I used to work with a lady who would get up in the middle of the night to get cheese or juice for her daughter who was hungry or thirsty. I said I would NEVER do such a thing. I would be the tough-go-back-to-sleep-and-suck-it-up-til-morning mom. Well, in spite of all that I've gone through with Chase, I've never gotten up in the middle of the night with him just to get him a drink or something to eat (and if you don't know Chase, he's ALWAYS hungry, so that's saying something!) unless he was sick and coughing or something. Then I'd get water, but that's my limit. Well, the other night he was coughing his poor head off and not getting much sleep (again, that means neither was I). At about 4 o'clock in the morning he realized he didn't have the slinky (he called it a "bouncy-thing") he had gotten that night at his Uncle Dennis and Chris' b-day party. After trying to be tough for a good 15 minutes, I finally gave in and went to look in the car. After all, he wasn't feeling well and I was starting to get desperate for sleep myself. I couldn't find it. Then he searched the car and couldn't find it. Then he remembered he'd put it in Grandfather's pocket! It's 4:15 in the morning. NO WAY I'm going over to my parent's house to wake them up just for a stupid slinky! Not THIS tough mom!! Whatever. Maybe not at 4:15, but fast forward 15 minutes and 4:30 I was waking Grandma up with a phone call to verify whether there was a slinky in Grandfather's pants pocket... there was... Chase and I got in the car and drove right over. (Sorry Grandma and Grandfather!) In my defense, he wasn't feeling well. He cried for half an hour before I gave in... Ok, no defense. I'm a sucker. I'm one of those easy-give-in-to-almost-anything moms I swore I would never be! :D I did get to finally go back to sleep from about 5:00 a.m. until Aiden got up at about 7:00 a.m. Lucky me. Chase and Karam slept in until 9:00 a.m. They must've been really tired! ;)
